Spindle Repair Process

spindle repair service in NH

At SPS Spindle, our refined spindle repair process allows us to maintain a quality spindle repair, while still meeting the customer’s demand for a quick turnaround.  Every step of our spindle repair process is a critical step towards maintaining quality control over our entire spindle repair operation.  From receiving the bad spindle, to the photo documenting of the disassembly and assembly of the spindle repair, SPS follows strict guidelines to ensure the very best spindle rebuild program for our customers.  Below is a breakdown of our spindle repair process.

Incoming Evaluation – The first step when the spindle is received by SPS.  Noting the condition of the spindle along with customer supplied info is helpful during the failure analysis phase of the spindle repair.

Disassembly – Utilizing the best practices and proper tools, many photos are taken to assist in other phases of the spindle repair.

Component Inspection – Done in a climate controlled clean environment, this is a critical step during the spindle repair process.  The key bearing locating surfaces and tool holding surfaces are the focus of this inspection.

Five Point Failure Analysis – Customer Feedback, Incoming Analysis, Breakdown Evaluation, Bearing Evaluation, and Corrective Action make up the spindle repair failure analysis.  Helping our customers reduce their spindle failures and preventing unnecessary machine downtime is our goal.

Quotation - The SPS spindle repair quote process begins with an evaluation of all spindle components and replacement parts. Actual breakdown hours, assembly hours, parts reworking hours, along with the replacement parts needed and outsourced services make up the spindle repair quote.

Machining & Component Rework - In-house machining and precision grinding capabilities at SPS allow us to remanufacture or manufacture new, most any component for the spindle repair process.

Balancing - An unbalanced spindle can cause unacceptable levels of noise and, most importantly, substantially reduce the life of the spindle bearings.  The latest in balancing equipment by Schenck and Balmac are used to achieve a quality balanced assembly, resulting in a smooth running, long lasting spindle repair.

Assembly – Our experienced technicians have received professional spindle repair training in bearing installation, tool retention systems, and measurement techniques, by a variety of machine tool original equipment manufacturers.  Experience, training, and the proper tools are key to a quality spindle repair.

Quality Control – A critical step in our spindle repair process is verifying that the spindle meets our repair specifications for the type of spindle being serviced.  Whether the spindle repair is for a high speed ID grinding machine, a horizontal machining center, or a high speed woodrouter, an extensive battery of quality control inspections are performed.  Mechanical measurements, sensor readings, and vibration analysis results are some of the data collected on our spindle repair inspections.
